Automated Decant applications are expanding as part of the Automated Receiving and Replenishment for ASRS and AMR based storage and picking systems.
Applications for Automated Decant:
Decant is the process of opening and removing the contents of master pack boxes or containers. Opening and removing these items (inner packs) from their original shipping master corrugate containers and placing the items / contents into totes or trays for automated storage or fulfillment systems that selectively move these totes to pickers and robots for order fulfillment.
The incredible velocity of automated AMR order fulfillment systems has driven the demand for decant processing of almost all goods received at fulfillment centers but the replenishment function to these systems remains a predominantly manual process.
Once the box is opened the automating the decant operation is challenging and requires integrated WMS that can allocate the opened products to destinations in either totes or trays. ABOT offers two systems based on the contents.
The first is the FAST Decant which is a quick transfer dump of goods that works well for apparel and other soft goods.
The more advanced Precision Decant can handle all types of media from foil packs to glassware cylinders.
The next stop for these items is typically into an automated work cell for order fulfillment.
Replenishing these automated work cell has become one of the new challenges driven by the transition to eCommerce and Omni channel fulfillment centers.
The DAC Robotics multi-Robot system that can slot product into sub compartments of totes and is the most advanced Automated and Patented system in the industry.
The DAC Robotics Decant works in conjunction with the ABOT box opener. Automating replenishment firstly requires automated box opening and lid removal. The transfer of goods from the opened box to a tote or tray is the next step.
Box opening is performed in three specific areas at Fulfillment and Omni Channel centers:
The second and third area are both driven by fulfillment demand but support two different methods using AMR based Goods to Operator fulfillment systems.
Automating the decant process requires WES or WMS software to manage workflow and allocate product by forecasted demand or actual demand to a destination within the facility. The Automatic / Automated box opening and decant process needs to be is included.
